Tutorial: Door Silencer

Do you have a young child (or maybe even an old child) that tends to slam doors? There is a simple fix and it saves a headache. Why don't you make your very own door stopper?

All you need is some cotton and elastic!

First Measure the distance from handle to handle... Mine was 5 inches, now subtract 1 inch.

So our 2 pieces of fabric are going to be 4"x3". You will also need 2 pieces of elastic that is about 3". (EXPERIMENT WITH YOUR OWN HANDLES! IT HAS TO FIT AROUND!)

Now fold in half like so.... and put the loop in the middle of the two pieces of fabric on the shorter edge. Repeat on other side and sew around leaving a tiny opening to flip inside out!

Now flip inside out and you have the loops on the outside! Now top stitch in a zig-zag stitch all the way around to close the hole that you have left. I used white thread as a contrast!

You are FINISHED! Easy huh?

Happy Sewing!

  1. I know adults who could use a door silencer, too!

    1. Oh I think everyone knows an adult like that! Maybe whip a few up for them ;)
