Tutorial: Flat Front Shorts with Pockets

Remember the other day when I showed you how to make your shorts pattern? Well today we are going to put it to good use!

Fold your fabric in half right sides together and place the pattern pieces on top. You need 2 of each pattern piece so this way you only have to cut them once!

Now sew along the inside of both pieces but NOT the crotch.

Once you open them up you can see the shorts forming!

Now stick a pin in a random place on the front piece so you won't forget it's the front! This will help you later!

Now lay your pocket pieces 3" down from the top of the shorts and sew right sides facing. If you need more details on this refer to the post about the skirt with pockets.

Place your pieces right sides together and sew AROUND the pockets. Not across them!

Sew the crotch across both legs!

Fold the hem up on both legs 1" and sew, I used a rolled hem because it looks prettier!

Now fold down the top using the same method and pin down. ONLY SEW AROUND THE BACK!!!!

Feed this elastic through the back and sew it on each side, securing the elastic inside. Now sew around the front. This gives you a flat front but still makes your shorts adjustable.

Add Buttons!

And you are DONE!

Happy Sewing!
